The INTEC Symposium held on June 3, 2025, at Adriatik University Bar in Budva, Montenegro, brought together more than 150 academic experts, local stakeholders, project partners, and students. The goal was to have a deep dialogue on sustainable mobility solutions in the Western Balkans (WB) region and to engage the local community in emerging mobility topics. The symposium was extensively covered by local and national media of Montenegro. The event was structured into keynote session, expert presentations, and podium discussions to encourage knowledge sharing and identify practical next steps.

The event was opened by Prof. Dr. Vinko Nikić, Dean of FSKL, followed by an introduction to the INTEC project presented by Daniela Wenzl. A keynote speaker opened the event and gave insights into mobility trends and challenges. The following presentations took place during the meeting.

  1. EV Charging Infrastructure – Dušan Boričić
  2. Hydrogen vs. Batteries – Ivan Tolj
  3. Alternative Fuels – Bhavin Kapadia
  4. Safety on Electric Vehicles – Marko Lučić
  5. AI-Driven Engineering – Luka Laković
  6. Electric Vehicles & Tunnels – Milan Šekularac
  7. HARMONMISSONS project – Ivana Ljutica
  8. CSupMNE project – Prof. emeritus dr Natasa Gospic

The participants were very active in all presentations, and they tried to explain the actual situation in Albania and Montenegro. Moreover, the experts proposed several actions for future implementation. Some of the key points of the discussions were:

  • The status of the charging infrastructure in Montenegro versus Germany, Austria, Albania and Croatia
  • The availability and use of hydrogen as a fuel in Austria and Germany.
  • The alternative fuels currently used in the Western Balkans.
  • Local barriers in Montenegro related to battery-powered vehicles.
  • Safety concerns regarding electric vehicles.
  • AI-driven engineering as a transformative tool for sustainable mobility.

🚗⚡ On 3rd June 2025, Prof. Dr. Bhavin Kapadia shared insights on the future of alternative fuels in mobility.

🌍 Key takeaways:

  • Alternative fuels are essential for heavy-duty transport (ships, aircraft, etc.) where electrification falls short.
  • Main challenges: high costs, limited production capacity & infrastructure gaps.
  • Pilot projects are already underway to address these barriers.

💬 The session also sparked an engaging discussion on the role of alternative fuels in Montenegro and Albania.
